Originally from Pennsylvania, Rick Sharpless received his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1984.  While there, he served as a staff member and Articles Editor of the North Carolina Law Review and received the Order of the Coif.

Mr. Sharpless has practiced in Greensboro, North Carolina since his admission to the bar in 1984.  After practicing at another Greensboro law firm for several years, Mr. Sharpless co-founded what is now Sharpless & Stavola, P.A. in 1990.

Rick Sharpless has tried over 50 civil cases to verdict across North Carolina.   Significant trials in recent years include personal injury, sexual harassment, and business contract and tort disputes.  A number of claims have involved amounts in controversy of several million dollars.  In addition to civil litigation matters, Mr. Sharpless has represented parties in arbitration and professional licensing matters and before regulatory licensing agencies.  Mr. Sharpless has a particular interest in accounting matters, and he regularly represents and advises professional accounting firms on a variety of issues.  Mr. Sharpless has received Martindale-Hubbell's highest "AV" rating.

In addition to his law practice, Mr. Sharpless routinely speaks on a variety of topics ranging from construction law to accounting malpractice.  When away from his practice, he enjoys ice, rock and alpine climbing, cycling and running, working on his family horse farm, travel, good times and good food with his wife, Nancy, and their two daughters, Jessica and Holly.
